We wanted to pay tribute to our roots in Finland, although we are a company incorporated in Switzerland.
The word “fenno” is being used in describing both geographic and linguistic positioning of Finland. Contrary to a common belief, Finland is not part of Scandinavia – it simply is not located on the Scandinavian peninsula. When talking about Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland (and Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland), the safe way is to talk about the Nordic countries.
On the other hand, talking about Fenno-Scandinavia or Fennoskandia – as it is currently defined – would leave Denmark out from the picture.
Although this may seem very confusing, it has not stopped many companies from selecting “Fenno” as part of their official company names. A quick search on the net reveals businesses in widely different areas from pharmaceuticals to atomic power generation.
Be that as it may, we want to offer support to all Nordic businesses in their efforts to expand to the western European markets, Switzerland and its neighbouring countries in particular – and vice versa!
