You want to expand your business to new markets.
For many Nordic software developers the UK has traditionally been the first market to look at – and for good reasons!
I guess it starts with the language. Most businesspeople in the Nordics speak fluent English and it is easy to find personnel for your company to develop solutions also with an English language user interface.
And it doesn’t hurt that the Brits are rather fun to work with. That is not to say that they would not be good negotiators or drive a hard bargain, on the contrary…
Now, two weeks after the famous Brexit referendum there seems to be no end to daily surprise news in UK politics. Even in the unlikely event that Brexit would actually not happen, the world will be different and there will be more uncertainty involved in entering the UK market for some time.
Have you considered the German speaking countries as your next growth market? Germany is the powerhouse of Europe and Austria and particularly Switzerland are not doing bad either.
Even in Switzerland, which is considered a top country in the world in terms of innovation, the level of digitalisation is rather surprisingly low in some areas, offering excellent opportunities for companies willing to find new business.
And consider this: if you wish to offer your solution only with the English language user interface, there are numerous headquarters, global or EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) located in Switzerland. In most of those companies the company language is English!
Bear in mind however, that getting work permits for foreign nationals in Switzerland is likely to get harder in the future. The obvious and recommended approach is therefore to enter the market using suitable indirect sales channels.
